Our 5mm LEDs are designed with the LED die located in the center of a frame, encased in a protective epoxy lens/case. The bottom of the LED features two bi-pin legs that extend downwards and connect to the epoxy package below. The longer of the two leads is designated as the positive side (Anode), while the shorter one serves as the negative side (cathode). A flat spot at the bottom of the lens also functions as another means of configuring the positive and negative sides.

Since the driving voltage of LED is relatively low, the general household voltage is 100V~240V, and LED and transformer need to be packaged as bulbs or tubes before they can be used in the home. In order to reduce costs, many commercially available products are equipped with transformers of poor quality, which accelerates the possibility of damage. The brightness of light-emitting diodes is not linearly related to the current, and the brightness adjustment is slightly complicated; using PWM is the lowest cost method to adjust the brightness, but the frequency must be high enough to avoid eye damage (PWM dimming is to adjust the brightness in a fast flashing manner, for example, the brightness is 10% of the maximum brightness every 10 times, but the flashing frequency is not high and it will hurt the eyes. The health risk is high below 1250Hz, and the risk is as low as the non-flickering dimming method above 3250Hz; and the old fluorescent lamps will not hurt the eyes so much if they use low-frequency PWM dimming, because fluorescent lamps have afterglow effect while LEDs do not). The cost is higher and the selling price is higher. Because the light source area of light-emitting diodes is small and the distribution is more concentrated, it will be dazzling when used for lighting purposes, and optical design must be used to disperse the light source. Each LED has certain differences in characteristics (brightness, color, bias, etc.) due to production technology issues. Even LEDs from the same batch have many differences.
